Where can I follow Skate Wheatley to stay informed on current events?
We encourage you to download the TeamReach app and add our club. Our join code is SW74. Otherwise, you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for fun stuff.
What is the Skate Canada Membership fee on my registration receipt?
Skate Wheatley is a registered skating club of Skate Canada. This ensures our programs meet the standards for safety and that our coaches are qualified to teach the required skills - meeting the goals set out by Skate Canada. Every skater is required to be registered with Skate Canada yearly. Click here for more information on this fee.
Do you offer instalment options to pay for the registration fees and what are my options for payment methods?
Yes! Skaters registering for a full season will have the option to pay in one payment or have it divided into 4 instalments. The initial payment is expected at the time of registration in August and instalments are expected on the 20th day of September, October, and November.
Fees can be paid via cash, cheque or e-transfer sent to skatewheatley.treasurer@gmail.com. Please indicate which payment method you’re choosing during the checkout process of the registration.
What happens if my child doesn’t take well to the ice? Can I get a refund?
We have a three-week window after registration during which first-time Pre-CanSkate/CanSkaters will be able to withdraw their skater and receive a refund. Our Refund Policy explains the particulars and you can find that here.
Alternatively, we offer half-season registrations for skaters who are new to the ice and who can’t commit to a full season. Fall session runs from September to December. The winter session runs from January to April.
This is our child’s first time on the ice – what equipment do we need?
Every child will need to have a CSA approved helmet to take the ice safely. Helmets are mandatory. Parents can purchase these anywhere hockey equipment is sold. You’ll also want to dress your child so that they’re warm enough to enjoy their time on the ice, but not SO bulky that it limits their movements. Particularly when they’re learning how to get up after a fall. A warm pair of gloves or mittens are highly recommended. We ask that you avoid anything too fluffy/furry – as it sticks to the ice’s surface.
My child loves being on the ice – when can they skate on a longer session or more days?
Our head coach is constantly assessing and monitoring our skaters’ progress. Once your child is ready to move into the next program, the head coach will speak to you off-ice letting you know it’s time. If you have questions before then, you can speak to head coach, Krislyn at the arena. A board member can easily point you in the right direction to find her.
