Volunteer & Fundraising Policy

Skate Wheatley relies on the support of our families through volunteering and fundraising to help operate our programs, club events, activities, and annual Carnival. At registration, each family is required to pay a $100 Volunteer Fee (per family), which can be earned back by completing the volunteer requirements. In addition, all families registering in the Fall are required to pay a $50 Fundraising Fee (per family) for raffle tickets. Families will receive raffle tickets to sell and keep the proceeds from their ticket sales, allowing them to recover the full cost of the Fundraising Fee.

Full-Season Families

Volunteer Fee: $100 per family

To receive a full refund of the Volunteer Fee, families must complete all three (3) of the following requirements during the skating season:

1. Carnival Volunteer (Mandatory)

Complete one (1) Carnival volunteer assignment by participating in one of the following:

  • Serve on the Carnival Committee;

  • Assist with Carnival set-up;

  • Assist with Carnival take-down;

  • Volunteer during one of the Carnival shows; or

  • Complete another Carnival-related task approved by the Board.

Please Note: Completion of a Carnival volunteer assignment is mandatory. Families who do not complete a Carnival volunteer assignment are not eligible to receive a Volunteer Fee refund.

2. Club Event Volunteer (Mandatory)

Volunteer at one (1) club event:

  • Pop Concert (December); or

  • Sweetheart Showcase (February); or

  • Another Board-approved club event

3. Additional Volunteer Requirement (Mandatory)

Complete one (1) of the following:

  • Sell a minimum of $100 in club fundraising;

  • Participate in three (3) Club Bingos; or

  • Sell an additional $50 in raffle tickets; or

  • Complete another Board-approved volunteer assignment.

Fall-Only Pre-CanSkate/CanSkate Families

Volunteer Fee: $50 per family

As these families are no longer registered during Carnival, the Carnival volunteer requirement does not apply. To receive a full refund of the Volunteer Fee, families who are participating during the Fall-Only session must volunteer at Pop Concert in December and complete one (1) of the following during the Fall session:

  • Sell a minimum of $100 in club fundraising (or as outlined for the specific fundraiser); or

  • Participate in two (2) Club Bingos; or

  • Sell an additional $50 in raffle tickets; or

  • Complete another Board-approved volunteer assignment.

Winter-Only Pre-CanSkate/CanSkate Families

Volunteer Fee: $50 per family

To receive a full refund of the Volunteer Fee, families who are participating during the Winter-Only session must volunteer at Carnival (see Full-Season Carnival Volunteer for details) and complete one (1) of the following during the Winter session:

  • Volunteer at the Sweetheart Showcase (February);

  • Sell a minimum of $100 in club fundraising (or as outlined for the specific fundraiser);

  • Participate in two (2) Club Bingos; or

  • Complete another Board-approved volunteer assignment.

General Information

  • Volunteer requirements are completed per family, not per skater.

  • Volunteer opportunities will be communicated throughout the skating season by email and posted on the TeamReach App.

  • It is the responsibility of each family to sign up for available volunteer opportunities.

  • Families who sign up for a volunteer assignment are expected to fulfill their commitment. Families who fail to complete a scheduled volunteer assignment without making prior arrangements may forfeit their Volunteer Fee refund unless otherwise approved by the Board.

  • The Board reserves the right to assign or approve alternate volunteer opportunities where necessary.

  • The Board may approve an alternate volunteer assignment in exceptional circumstances (e.g., illness, injury, or a skater competing at a Skate Ontario event during Club events or Carnival).

  • Volunteer Fee refunds will be issued after all volunteer requirements have been verified at the end of the skating season.
